Medicare claim and payment delays

Thursday, Jan 26, 2012 - 04:44:56 PM

Update 1/26: Medicare is still working to process all the claims submitted between 1/1 – 1/10, please do not re-send these claims as it will result in a duplicate denial. We are monitoring the progress and will post updates here.

On December 23, 2011, President Obama signed the “Temporary Payroll Tax Cut Continuation Act of 2011”. The Act prevents a scheduled payment cut for Medicare physicians and other providers from taking effect immediately.

January 1, 2012 through February 29, 2012: Medicare charges incurred during this period are subject to a 0% fee schedule increase.

Claims incurred during the first 10 business days of January, 2012 will be held by Medicare contractors while the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) adjustment is tested and implemented.

By January 18, 2012, CMS anticipates that all held claims will be released.

The payment cut may take effect on March 1, 2012 based on results of the debate between the President and Congress

The Medicare Part B deductible is decreased to $140.
